Photo friends, how many times have you heard yourself screaming those very words in your head? There you are, marooned on your friend’s or sister-in-law’s computer away from the awesome pixel transforming power of Adobe Photoshop.

Sure, you just use online photo editing tools in Flickr for a quick crop, color adjustment or the like but if you need real Photoshop Power? What if you need to clone your ex out of a photo on Facebook pronto? Or paint in some well placed horns?

Now there’s an alternative online alternative to Photoshop. It’s name is Pixlr. Layers, cloning, painting, type and even filters.

Crazy great, right? Non-photo friends, trust me here. It’s crazy great.

The Hunt for Inspiration

Jack London once said “You can’t wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a mouse.” Okay he might have said club instead of mouse. Same difference these days in the realm of digital creation. KORE Website Redesign

KORE is the company and website of all-around superman and good friend, Kent Kroeker. If you know Kent, you know the man just does NOT ever slow down. Appropriately, Kent has been racing in Baja for over a decade. I was there at his first solo Baja 500 in the pit crew and recently I was able to lend some support again. This time in the redesign of his website. (I haven’t touched the online store portion.) If you haven’t caught up with Kent lately I think you’ll enjoy browsing the Racing News. I’m planning on attending one of his races later this year and you’ll see some photos from me then. Check out the new design here.

New Voice-Over Talent

It’s my pleasure to introduce you to a new up and coming voice over talent, Vilija Marshall. Vilija does voice over acting for commercials, radio spots, video games and anything else requiring professional level voice acting. I’ve worked with several voice pros and although also a great friend, I don’t think my judgment is being clouded by that when I say she’s really good. Vilija has a distinctive voice and I think you’ll be hearing a lot more of her in the near future. Here’s some rough demos to get a better idea of her range.

Online Photo Edits in Flickr with Picnik

If you’re not on a photo-sharing site then go with Flickr. In fact, if you’re on Google’s Picasa and you’re not using their desktop software you might want to switch because now Flickr has integrated Picnik with robust tools for editing your photos right on the web. This is a huge advantage if you’re just sharing your photos on Facebook or the like. If you want to be able to print your photos or share full resolution images then stick with Picassa. Or just use both.

Life is busy and no time for photography. Missed my post completely last week although I was out of town. Also lost one of my memory cards but that’s no excuse. Nope, just too busy and still catching up from attending the SXSW show. Here’s something entertaining in the meantime. #Influence Logo

I’m doing more on the graphics side of things than photography of late so I thought I’d share a little of that. Here’s a simple logo I recently designed for Influence San Diego a website for the San Diego Social Media Awards. The Influence site is a great way to discover top blogs in San Diego. The blogs there are all nominated and voted on by the online community so you’re getting the benefits of crowdsourcing the discovery of great blogs.

God stopped by Newport today and I got off this shot. Okay, that’s not true. I actually took five exposures and stitched them together. Sunset photographs are passé I suppose but I’m glad I caught it. Many thanks to the “Big Guy.”

Sky on Steel

I caught this simple image out the door of the San Diego Tree.com office in La Jolla. The intense blob of light caught my eye. After pulling it in to my computer I realized that I actually prefer the way the sky shows itself in the reflection onto the walkways. Click the image for a larger view.
